Earlier today my wife found this Energade Champs product on the shelves at a local convenience store and it actually looks like quite a nice product.

energadechamps

Previously we have only let the kids use Energade when they have been at a sports event or where they are likely to burn it off quite quickly but this looks quite handy from a health perspective.

It’s nicely packaged and easy to distinguish between mainstream Energade products and the Champs range and it largely looks healthy for them to consume.

I looked for a bit of a write up on the product and found the following from their communications company:

Energade Champs, the first ever low GI sports drink, has been launched in South Africa. The first of its kind, Energade Champs promotes a healthy lifestyle for active sportsmen and women as well as their children. Available in four great tasting flavours, including Pineapple, Apple, Naartjie and Berry, it replenishes, refreshes and rehydrates. Energade Champs’ special formulation makes is perfect for sports enthusiasts, health fanatics and active kids.

A low GI beverage, Energade Champs contains fewer kilojoules than carbonated soft drinks, fruit juices and regular cordials. Energade Champs contains slow release carbohydrates, which gives it a glycaemic index of 30, which is very low. The low GI keeps blood sugar levels even and will not cause spiking, so you won’t experience an energy high followed by a horrible low. With Energade Champs energy levels are sustained. What does this mean for the sportsman and woman? Enjoying Energade Champs, South Africa’s first low GI beverage, before exercising prevents hypoglycemia (or low sugar). This is due to the proven fact that low GI carbohydrates are digested slowly, providing sustained energy. Energade Champs also helps in conserving muscle glycogen (a form of stored glucose) as fat stores are used first. Energade Champs is ideal for the marathon runner, the endurance sports fanatic as well as the golfer, kick-boxing pro, cyclist and everyone else who enjoys a good dose of activity.

Energade Champs has a GI of 30, which puts it in the low GI category. Glycaemic Index is measured according to the rate of digestion and absorption of a food or beverage. The quicker it is absorbed, the higher the GI. When it comes to sports and exercise, where the maintenance of sustained energy levels are required, the lower the GI the better.

What’s more Energade Champs has fewer kilojoules per 100ml and a lower Glycaemic Index than fruit juice. This means that you don’t have to worry about it adding unwanted centimetres to your waistline. With Energade Champs, energy is sustained for longer and lifestyle diseases, such as obesity, are prevented.

Energy Champs can be enjoyed by the whole family as it contains natural colourants and flavourants and none of the additives that may lead to hyperactivity in children. With Energade Champs everyone can lead a healthy lifestyle and take pleasure from the benefits of a low GI sports drink.

Energade Champs comes in four great flavours:
- Naartjie
- Pineapple
- Apple
- Berry

Energade Champs is available at retailers and convenience stores countrywide

I am an educator at a school in Phoenix and heard about the Energade Champs drinks for kids. Could you please organise an awareness of your product at our school as we discourage our learners from bringing the regular Energade to school.A positive response will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
